Feedback from the judges on the posters

Some feedback from the Chair of the final judging panel on the posters, itemised by the judging criteria, could help students improve future statistical work.

  • Clarity of message

Very good generally. Most posters clearly stated an objective and conclusion. Make sure that your poster answers the question(s) posed in your objectives.

  •  Data collection

Make sure to state where the data came from, what the sample size was and how the sample was selected.

  •  Analysis and conclusions

It is very important to choose an analysis which is appropriate for the type of data collected (e.g. analysis that are suitable for continuous data are usually not appropriate for categorical data).

  •  Graphs and tables

Make sure to label the axes of all graphs and try to select a style of graph that best conveys your message.

  •   Presentation

Take care with spelling and the overall alignment and formatting of the poster. Try to avoid having too much text and relying completely on series of slides. Try to use a mixture of text, graphs and images.

  •  Creativity/Importance

Originality and creativity in the research question is important. Try to create an eye-catching poster.
