In 2014, six out of every 10 journeys (60.1%) undertaken by those living outside Dublin took 15 minutes or less to complete. For those living in Dublin almost half of all journeys (49.6%) took 15 minutes or less. Over four fifths of all journeys (both for persons living in Dublin and outside of Dublin) took half an hour or less to complete while less than 5% of all journeys took greater than one hour to complete.

People living outside Dublin were more likely to travel longer distances. Close to half of all journeys (45.4%) made by those living outside of Dublin in 2014 were eight kilometres or more, in comparison with those living in Dublin where just one third of all journeys (33.8%) were of a similar distance. Nearly one fifth of all journeys (both for persons living in Dublin and outside of Dublin) were less than two kilometres.

The majority of journeys which had a distance of eight kilometres or less were completed in less than 15 minutes. In the case of journeys less than two kilometres, almost all (92.7%), were 15 minutes or less. Over one third of journeys (34.4%) of eight kilometres or more took longer than 30 minutes to complete.

Over three quarters of journeys of fifteen minutes or less were by car (as a driver or passenger) compared with over 70% of journeys over one hour in duration. Over one tenth of journeys greater than three quarters of an hour in duraton were by bus.
