Second quarter of 2022 sees Compensation of Employees increase by 12.2% compared to corresponding period of previous year following some easing of restrictions. All sectors experienced growth this quarter compared to corresponding period of previous year. Largest increase seen in Arts, Entertainment and Other Services (29.5%), Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants (23.5%) and Construction (19%).

On a seasonally adjusted basis, total Compensation of Employees increased by 2.5% compared to the previous quarter. Most sectors experienced an increase this quarter compared to the pervious. Largest increase in growth quarter on quarter can be seen in Construction (6.4%), Arts, Entertainment and Other Services (5%) and Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants (3.9%). Financial and Insurance Activities decreased by 0.4% this quarter compared to the previous.

A decrease in total Employment Wage Subsidy in Q2 2022 compared to the previous quarter. Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants receives the largest amount of EWSS payments.

Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme payments make up 0.4% of total Compensation of Employees this quarter. The Arts, Entertainment and Other Services sector EWSS payments as a percentage of Compensation of Employees sees a decrease this quarter, from to 9.9% down to 1.8%.

The Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme replaced the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme from 1 September 2020. More information on the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme is available on the Revenue.ie website.
