LFS National Minimum Wage Estimates Q4 2018

  • There were 137,200 employees for whom earnings were reported earned the National Minimum Wage or less in Q4 2018. This was 9.0% or 13,500 less than in Q4 2017
  • The 137,200 figure represented 7.6% of all employees and this was down from the 8.6% reported in Q4 2017
  • The number of employees who reported having earned more than the National Minimum Wage in Q4 2018 increased by 5.2% or 83,400 to 1,679,600 from Q4 2017

    The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (26 April 2019) issued National Minimum Wage Estimates from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) in respect of Q4 2018.

    Commenting on the report, Jim Dalton, Statistician, said: “Questions on the National Minimum Wage status of employees have been included in the LFS since Q2 2016. Today’s report provides estimates based on the most recently available data up to Q4 2018.

    Key findings show that the number of employees who earned the National Minimum Wage or less in Q4 2018 was 137,200, down 9.0% or 13,500 from Q4 2017. Of this, 24,500 earned less than the National Minimum Wage.

    The figure of 137,200 represented 7.6% of all employees in Q4 2018 and this was down from the 8.6% in Q4 2017.

    The number of employees who earned more than the National Minimum Wage in Q4 2018 was 1,679,600 and this fell by 5.2% or 83,400 from a year earlier.’
