Across all regions the majority of dwelling purchasers are by people providing an address in that location. This is illustrated in Figure 5.1 which shows the address supplied by property purchasers.
From 2010 to 2021, nearly 9 in 10 property buying individuals in Cork purchased a dwelling in Cork. This was the highest proportion in Ireland, followed closely by Dublin.
Just over half of people (51.2%) purchasing a property in Roscommon supplied an address in Roscommon.
From 2010 to 2021 nearly one in four (24.1%) people who bought a property in Donegal gave an address outside Ireland, the largest share in the State. Most of these addresses were in Northern Ireland (see Figure 5.2).

More than 2,200 people providing addresses in each of Kildare, Meath and Wicklow bought a property in Dublin between 2010 and 2021. Less than 300 people providing addresses in Leitrim and Longford purchased in Dublin over the same time period, see Figure 5.3.
Map 5.1 and 5.2 provides a breakdown of the counties those who provide either a Northern Ireland or North American address at the time of purchase subsequently purchase in.
