Mortgage Loans of Purchasers

Almost 63% of residential dwellings were purchased with a mortgage in 2021

The median mortgage loan was €220,000 in 2021

While the median price paid by a purchaser with a mortgage was €309,000 in 2021, the median loan amount was €220,000 for the same period. In 2010 the median price paid by a purchaser with a mortgage was €247,000 and the median loan amount was €191,000.

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown has the lowest loan to value share at 62%

Table 3.1 compares dwellings purchased with mortgages with median mortgage loan amounts. It shows that overall the loan to value share was 71.2% in 2021.

At a local authority level, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown has the lowest loan to value share at 62%. This was followed by Kerry at 67.9%.

In contrast, Laois was the region with highest share at 81.2%.
