Wholesale electricity prices increased by 11.3% in the month to June 2023 but were 35.6% lower in June 2023 when compared with June 2022.
Domestic producer prices for manufactured goods were on average 3.9% higher in June 2023 compared with a year earlier, while producer prices for exported goods fell by 0.8%. Overall, manufacturing producer prices were 0.6% lower in the year.
Producer prices for food products fell by 3.4% in the 12 months to June 2023, while the Food Products, Beverages & Tobacco index was down by 2.5%.
Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products over the 12 months to June 2023 were: Fruit & Vegetables (+16.3%), Fish & Fish Products (+13.2%), Bakery & Farinaceous Products (+3.8%), Dairy Products (-13.1%), Vegetable & Animal Oils & Fats (-7.0%) and Other Food Products (-4.0%).
The most notable changes in other producer prices in the year were: Beverages (+17.2%), Other Non-Metallic Mineral Products (such as glass, ceramics, cement, concrete and stone) (+9.8%), Wearing Apparel (+6.7%), Fabricated Metal Products (except Machinery & Equipment) (+6.5%), Basic Metals (-11.7%) and Wood & Wood Products (-7.0%).
Wholesale prices for construction products showed no change in the month to June 2023 but rose by 6.5% in the 12 months since June 2022.

The Building and Construction Index (i.e. Materials and Wages) remained unchanged in the month but rose by 4.9% in the 12 months to June 2023. This index combines the All Materials Index with a measure of the change in wages in the construction sector to provide an overall index for input construction costs. (See Table 4).
There was an increase in the price of wholesale electricity in June 2023 with prices 11.3% higher than the previous month. The price of electricity was 35.6% lower than in June 2022. The overall Energy Products Index increased by 9.0% since May 2023 but decreased by 33.5% when compared with June 2022 (See Figure 3 and Table 5).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (21st July 2023) released the Wholesale Price Index June 2023.
Commenting on the release, Edel Flannery, Senior Statistician in the Prices Division, said: ''Wholesale price inflation showed a small increase in June 2023 with a rise of 0.5% to the overall producer price index for the manufacturing industries in the month. The price index for export sales also rose by 0.5% since May 2023, while the index for home sales fell by 0.7% in the month. Producer prices for products sold on the domestic market were 3.9% higher in June 2023 than they were in June 2022, with export producer prices falling by 0.8% and overall producer prices falling by 0.6% in the year.
Food Products
Producer prices in the Food Products index dropped by 1.8% in the month to June 2023 and this overall index was 3.4% lower than in June 2022. Prices for some food products fell in the month, for example Other Food Products (-3.5%) and Dairy Products (-2.1%). Prices for these products were also lower on an annual basis compared with June 2022, with Other Food Products seeing a reduction of 4.0% in the year and Dairy Products down by 13.1%. Several other food categories were still significantly higher in June 2023 compared with the same month in 2022, including Fruit & Vegetables (+16.3%), Fish & Fish Products (+13.2%) and Baking & Farinaceous Products (+3.8%), (See Table 2).
Electricity and Construction Products

The All Materials Index for construction products remained unchanged in the month but increased by 6.5% in the year, while the Building and Construction (i.e. Materials and Wages) index also remained unchanged in the month but was 4.9% higher than the same month last year (See Tables 3 and 4).''
