Wholesale electricity prices rose by 22.3% in the month to January 2025 and were 67.7% higher than January 2024.
Domestic producer prices for manufactured goods were on average 1.4% higher in January 2025 when compared with a year earlier, while producer prices for exported goods were up by 2.1%. Overall, manufacturing producer prices were 2.1% higher in the year.
Producer prices for food products increased by 7.6% in the 12 months to January 2025, while the Food Products, Beverages & Tobacco Index was up by 6.4%.
Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products over the 12 months to January 2025 were: Dairy Products (+18.6%), Other Food Products (+8.6%), Meat & Meat Products (+4.1%), and Grain Milling, Starches & Animal Feeds (-2.9%).
The most notable changes in other producer prices in the year to January 2025 were: Mining & Quarrying (+4.0%), Furniture (+3.5%), Chemicals & Chemical Products (-13.7%), and Rubber & Plastic Products (-3.3%).
Wholesale prices for construction products grew by 0.1% in the month to January 2025 and rose by 1.3% in the 12 months since January 2024.

Notable annual increases and decreases in construction products as shown in Table 3 include:
The Building & Construction Index (i.e. Materials and Wages) rose by 0.1% in the month to January 2025 and was up by 2.2% in the 12 months to January 2025. This index combines the All Materials Index with a measure of the change in wages in the Construction sector to provide an overall index for input construction costs (See Table 4).
There was an increase of 22.3% in the price of wholesale electricity in January 2025. The price of electricity was 67.7% higher than in January 2024 and was 56.8% lower when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.
The price index for all energy fuels rose by 6.3% in January 2025 and was up by 2.0% in the year since January 2024.
The overall Energy Products Index was up by 18.6% since December 2024 and was 48.0% higher when compared with January 2024 (See Figure 3 and Table 5).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (21 February 2025) published the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for January 2025.
Commenting on the release, Deirdre Toher, Statistician in the Prices Division, said:
“Wholesale price inflation showed an increase in January 2025 with a 0.1% growth in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month. The price index for export sales was up by 0.1% since December 2024, while the index for home sales was up 0.5% in the month. Producer prices for products sold on the domestic market were 1.4% higher in January 2025 compared with January 2024. In the 12 months to January 2025, export producer prices rose by 2.1% while overall producer prices were up by 2.1%.
Electricity Prices
Wholesale electricity prices rose by 22.3% in January 2025 when compared with December 2024 and were 67.7% higher than January 2024. They have fallen by 56.8% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.
Construction Products
The All Materials Index for construction products increased by 0.1% in January 2025 and rose by 1.3% in the 12 months since January 2024. The Building & Construction Index (i.e. Materials and Wages) was up by 0.1% in the month and was 2.2% higher than the same month last year (See Tables 3 and 4)."
