Ireland exported €868 million to South America in 2023 and imported just over €1 billion. We imported 661,000 tones of animal feed from Argentina, 479,000 tonnes of coal from Colombia, 157,000 tonnes of wood chips from Brazil, and 8,600 tonnes of bananas, 5,450 tonnes of melons and 4,700 tonnes of coffee from various South American countries.
Exports of €990 million and imports €215 million with Oceania is dominated by Australia and New Zealand, who account for 99% of total exports and imports from the region. The largest value product imported from these countries was wine, which represented 28% of the total value of imports.
There were 8.5 million litres of wine imported from Australia, and 5.7 million litres imported from New Zealand. In value terms, New Zealand is the fourth largest supplier of wine to Ireland, but only sixth in terms of volume. We imported more wine from Chile than any other country in the world, with over 15 million litres.
