Exports of food and live animals accounted for 44% of total exports in 1975 and was valued at €816 million. The value of food and live animal exports had grown to €11.6 billion in 2020, but its share had fallen to 7% of total exports in 2020.
Exports of chemicals and related products were valued at €137 million in 1975, which accounted for 7% of total exports. This had grown to almost €106 billion in 2020 and represented 65% of the total value of exports.
Exports of machinery and transport equipment increased from 11% of total exports in 1975 to 41% in 2000. In 2020, it accounted for 14% of total exports, with a value of €22.7 billion.
