World Trade and Trade with Europe 2019

Over €56 billion of Ireland’s exports in 2019 went to EU countries, representing 37% of total exports, making it the most important trading bloc for Ireland. Ireland exported more to Asia in 2019 than to the UK, €17.4 billion went to Asia, and €15.7 to the UK. Our largest export partner in Asia is China, to which there were €8.3 billion of exports in 2019.

Over €50 billion of exports went to North America, of which €47 billion went to the USA.

Ireland exported €79 million to Europe in 2019, of which almost €57 billion went to EU countries. There were exports of €15.7 billion to the UK, and €6.6 billion to Non-EU countries. Switzerland accounted for €5.5 billion of the exports to Non-EU countries. 

Exports of Chemicals and related products were valued at €48 billion, while exports of Food and live animals and beverages were €9.5 billion.

In 2019, we imported €57 billion from European countries, of which 58%, or €33 billion came from EU countries. The UK accounted for over €20 billion of imports in 2019. 

There were imports of €7.5 billion of Food and live animals and beverages in 2019, of which €4.3 billion came from the UK and €3 billion came from the EU.
