Aviation numbers continue to rise

Passenger numbers in April 2023 up 4% compared with April 2019 for Dublin, Cork, Kerry and Shannon airports combined

The number of passengers handled by Dublin airport over the first four months of the year were 1% higher than pre-pandemic 2019 figures. There were 9,401,269 passengers handled by Dublin airport between January and the end of April 2023 compared with 9,269,974 passengers in the same period in 2019.

Looking at April 2023, figures show that the number of passengers handled by Cork airport was 30% higher than April 2022 figures, and 19% higher than those seen in the same month in 2019 (before COVID-19). For Shannon airport, the number of passengers was 39% higher in April 2023 compared with April 2022 and 33% higher than April 2019. There were 3,273,674 passengers handled by Dublin, Cork, Kerry and Shannon airports in April 2023 compared with 3,161,181 for the same month in 2019.

(Note: Knock airport was closed from April to June 2020 and from February to May 2021. Cork Airport was closed in October 2021. Data for Knock not available at time of publication.)
