Air passenger data shows a substantial fall in passengers handled by Irish airports due to COVID-19 restrictions. Data on airport passengers is presented in table 4.1 and illustrated in figure 4.1.

The number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in January 2022 was almost five times that of January 2021. However, the number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in January 2022 was still 53.4% lower than January 2020 (969,467 compared with 2,082,481)

Note: Knock airport was closed from April to June 2020 and from February to May 2021. Cork Airport was closed in October 2021. Shannon and Kerry data for January 2022 was not available at the time of publication.
