Fuel Excise Clearances

Clearances of autodiesel in October 2022, at 298 million litres, were 11% lower than in October 2021 and 8% lower than October 2019, but 6% higher than in October 2020.

Clearances of petrol in October 2022, at 79 million litres, were 6% lower than in October 2021 and were 10% lower than October 2019, but 23% higher than in October 2020.

Statistics on the volume of fuel clearances covered by excise taxes are collected by the Revenue Commissioners. Clearances reflect the excise duties paid on oil removed from tax warehouses. This data provides a proxy for sales and the associated level of consumption, but they do not reflect actual consumption.

There were 2,353 new private cars and 3,739 used (imported) private cars licensed in November 2022. Compared with November 2021, there was an increase of 8% for new private cars and a decrease of 14% for used private cars. November 2022 saw a 62% decrease for used private cars licensed when compared to November 2019

Road Fatalities

There were 18 fatalities on Irish roads in November 2022 compared with four in the same month in 2021, 11 in 2020, and 11 in 2019.
