Table 2.1 below contains an aggregated version of the 2021 Use Table at current purchasers' prices. Total Intermediate Consumption by industry and product was €435 billion in 2021. Subtracting total Intermediate Consumption from total Domestic Supply by industry and product left Gross Value Added (GVA) of €425 billion in 2021. The Use Table below also shows Final Uses, consisting of Final Consumption Expenditure (FCE), Capital Formation and Exports. FCE, mostly made up by household consumption, was worth €159 billion in 2021. Capital Formation, made up of Gross Fixed Capital Formation and Changes in Inventories, was valued at €103 billion. Exports, which are calculated exclusive of insurance and freight, were worth €596 billion. Adding Intermediate Consumption to Final Uses gives Total Uses, which were €1,293 billion in 2021, equal to the Total Supply.

Consumption by product is shown in Figure 2.1 below. Exports made up the largest share of Total Uses in the economy in 2021, products of Manufacturing (CPA 10-33) and of Information and Communication (CPA 58-63) were the largest contributors to this Export figure, valued at €278 billion and €197 billion. Intermediate Consumption of Administrative and Support Services (CPA 77-82) was worth €115 billion, and was a significant input in the Manufacturing and Distribution, Transport and Communication industries. Products of Manufacturing were the next largest component of Intermediate Consumption, worth €92 billion. These products were mainly used by the Manufacturing industry itself, for further production.

Figure 2.2 below shows the shares of the Use Table by component and product. As mentioned above, Exports made up the largest share of Total Uses in the Irish economy in 2021, at 46%. The second largest share of Total Uses was Intermediate Consumption, which made up 34%. This was followed by Final Consumption at 12%, and Capital Formation, which made up 8% of Total Uses. However, these shares varied greatly over product categories. Information and Communication, and Manufacturing are both globalised industries. The proportion of their products that were exported in 2021 highlights this; 82% of Information and Communication products and 63% of Manufacturing products were exported in 2021. Other products were almost exclusively used by households and the government (Final Consumption); 94% of Human Health and Social Work Services and 87% of Education services. Intermediate Consumption made up the majority of Total Uses for products of Administrative and Support Services, at 87%, and of Mining and Quarrying products, at 75%. These are just some of the key points from the figure below, which indicates how various goods and services were consumed throughout the Irish economy in 2021.
