Supply and Use Tables for Ireland 2021

Table 1.1 below contains an aggregated version of the 2021 Supply Table at current purchasers' prices. Domestic Supply (Output), which is in basic prices, was valued at €860 billion in 2021. Imports (inclusive of insurance and freight costs) were €409 billion. Taxes less Subsidies on products were €25 billion. Taxes less Subsidies and Trade Margins are added by product to convert the supply from basic prices to purchasers' prices. The total value of Margins sums to zero but Margins are positive and negative across products. Adding Margins allocates the mark-ups made by wholesalers and retailers from wholesale and retail sales to the products that are being sold. Summing these components together leads to Total Supply at purchasers' prices of €1,293 billion in 2021.

Figure 1.1 highlights the supply of products, produced domestically and imported, in 2021. The products of Manufacturing (CPA 10-33) accounted for the largest proportion of both Domestic Supply and Imports, worth €280 billion and €110 billion respectively, totalling €390 billion in 2021. Products of Information and Communication (CPA 58-63) made the second largest contribution to Domestic Supply, worth €212 billion. However, Imports of these products were less significant, and were worth €25 billion in 2021. Figure 1.1 has been aggregated to P21, greater detail on the individual product codes can be found in the full Supply Table linked at the end of the chapter.

Figure 1.2 below displays the component shares of Supply in 2021. As mentioned previously, Domestic Supply made up 66% of Total Supply in 2021, Imports made up 32% and Taxes less Subsidies made up the remainder. However, here we can see how these shares varied across product categories. Imports made up the majority of Total Supply of products of Administrative and Support Service Activities, and Mining and Quarrying, at 75% and 72% respectively. Total Supply of other products were made up almost entirely of Domestic Supply, such as Construction at 97%. Trade Margins are removed from the products of Wholesale and Retail Trade and distributed across the relevant products that were traded. This explains the large negative percentage for Trade Margins for the category.
