The UK is Ireland's most significant trading partner in terms of the number of enterprises who export and import. Three-quarters of all enterprises who imported goods in 2022 traded with the UK, while over two-thirds of all exporters sent goods to the UK.
Of the 36,701 enterprises who imported from the UK in 2022, over 25,000 were micro enterprises, with less than ten employees.
There were over €20.6 billion of goods exported to the UK in 2022. Just over half of this total was exported by large companies (over 250 employees).
There were 7,616 SMEs exporting to the UK in 2022, exporting €9.5 billion of goods.
There were 25,064 micro enterprises who imported good from the UK in 2022, with imports of almost €5.9 billion. The total value of imports from SMEs in 2022 was €15.5 billion.
