These statistics are categorised as Under Reservation. This categorisation indicates that the quality of these statistics do not meet the standards required of official statistics published by the CSO.

Table 4.1 contains data for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 cohorts. These figures were previously published but they have been revised following the introduction of an improved data matching methodology and the discovery of a processing error.
The data indicates that there has been a drop in the overall rate of recidivism from a high of 54.6% in the 2008 cohort to 46.9% in the 2012 cohort. The rate of recidivism is typically higher for males than for females. It is noteworthy that the difference between the rates is declining. This gap stood at 13.1% and 13.2% for the 2009 and 2010 cohorts. In the 2012 cohort the gap had fallen to 4.7%. See table 1.1.
