Indigenous Production was 25% lower in June 2024 when compared with June 2023 (See Tables 1B and Figure 1). The Corrib gas field was closed for planned maintenance for some of June 2024 (See Table 3B).
Gas Imports represented 79% of total metered supply in June 2024 with Indigenous Production from the Corrib gas field and biomethane plants accounting for the remaining 21% (See Tables 1A, 1B, 1C, and Figure 1).
Total metered gas demand in June 2024 was 3,697 gigawatt hours (GWh), which was 8% lower than the June 2023 figure of 4,035 GWh (See Table 2A).
Comparing June 2024 with June 2023, natural gas demand by customer category showed the following trends: Non-Daily Metered (+36%); Power Plants (-15%); Daily Metered (+10%); and Large Daily Metered (-1%) (See Tables 2B to 2E).
There were four days in June 2024 with a maximum daily air temperature above 20 degrees Celsius recorded at Dublin Airport compared with 15 days in June 2023 (See Table 5).
There were 12 days in June 2024 with a daily mean wind speed of above 10 Knots recorded at Dublin Airport compared with three days in June 2023 (See Table 6).
Natural Gas Imports were 1% higher in the first six months of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023. Indigenous Production was 14% lower in the first six months of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023 (See Tables A, 1B, 1C, and Figure 1).
This release includes information on the maximum daily air temperatures at Dublin Airport (See Table 5) and daily mean wind speed at Dublin Airport (See Table 6). Low maximum daily air temperatures in winter usually increases the demand for household heating. The amount of wind can influence the balance between electricity generated from natural gas and wind turbines.
Indigenous Production was 13.8% lower in the first six months of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023. Natural Gas Imports were 0.5% higher in the first six months of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023 (See Tables A, 1B, 1C, and Figure 1). Gas demand by Power Plants was 11.5% lower when comparing the 12-month rolling period of July 2023-June 2024 with July 2022-June 2023 (See Table A, 2B, and Figure 2).

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (10 September 2024) published Networked Gas Daily Supply and Demand June 2024.
Commenting on the release, Deirdre Moran, Statistician in the Climate and Energy Division, said: “Total metered gas demand in June 2024 was 3,697 gigawatt hours (GWh), which was 8% lower than the June 2023 figure of 4,035 GWh (See Table 2A).
In June 2024, Power Plants accounted for 71% of total gas demand, down from 76% of total demand in June 2023. Non-Daily Metered represented 10% of total gas demand, up from 7% of total demand in June 2023 (See Tables 2A, 2B, 2C, and Figure 2).
Natural Gas Imports were 2% lower in June 2024 compared with June 2023. Indigenous Production was 25% lower in June 2024 compared with June 2023 (See Tables 1B, 1C, and Figure 1).
