Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 770.4 million litres in September 2023, a decrease of 15.2 million litres (-1.9%) when compared with September 2022.
Fat content dropped marginally from 4.56% in September 2022 to 4.55% in September 2023 while Protein content increased from 3.75% in September 2022 to 3.77% in September 2023.
Butter production was up 6.6% from 23,700 tonnes in September 2022 to 25,300 tonnes in September 2023.
Skim Milk Powder production was 13,000 tonnes in September 2023 in comparison with 13,200 tonnes in September 2022.
In the nine months from January to September 2023, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 7,289.5 million litres, a decline of 75.5 million litres (-1.0%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022, and down by 94.9 million litres (-1.3%) when compared with September 2021.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2022 and 2023.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (03 November 2023) published Milk Statistics for September 2023.
Commenting on the release Dr Grzegorz Głaczyński, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 1.9% in September 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Domestic Milk Intake fell by 1.0% (75.5 million litres) over the nine-month period from January to September 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. Fat content marginally dropped to 4.55% in September 2023 from 4.56% in September 2022, while Protein content increased to 3.77% from 3.75% over the same period.”
