Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 793.8 million litres for March 2023, a 1.8% decrease when compared with March 2022 and down by 4.3% when compared with March 2021.
Fat content rose from 4.33% in March 2022 to 4.34% in March 2023. Protein content fell from 3.33% to 3.31% over the same period.
Butter production decreased by 3,600 tonnes from 24,400 tonnes in March 2022 to 20,800 tonnes in March 2023.
Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to March 2023 was estimated at 1,355.2 million litres, a decline of 4.1 million litres (-0.3%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2022 and 2023.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (03 May 2023) published Milk Statistics for March 2023.
Commenting on the release Dr Grzegorz Głaczyński, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 1.8% in March 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Domestic Milk Intake declined by 0.3% (4.1 million litres) during the period January to March 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. Fat content increased to 4.34% in March 2023 from 4.33% in March 2022, while Protein content dropped to 3.31% from 3.33% over the same period.”
