Domestic Milk Intake by milk processors and co-ops was estimated at 980.7 million litres in July 2024, a decrease of 33.9 million litres (-3.3%) when compared with July 2023 and down 42.1 million litres (-4.1%) when compared with the same month in 2022.
Fat content for July 2024 was 4.09%, down from 4.14% in July 2023. Protein content went up marginally from 3.47% to 3.50% in the 12 months to July 2024.
Butter production dropped from 31,800 tonnes in July 2023 to 29,300 tonnes in July 2024, a decrease of 2,500 tonnes.
Total milk sold for human consumption was down marginally by 0.9 million litres, from 42.3 million litres in July 2023 to 41.4 million litres in July 2024.
For the period January to July 2024, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 5.33 billion litres, a decline of 279.8 million litres (-5.0%) when compared with the same period in 2023, and down by 330.2 million litres (-5.8%) when compared with January to July 2022.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2023 and 2024.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (06 September 2024) published Milk Statistics for July 2024.
Commenting on the release, Sam Scriven, Senior Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said “Today’s figures show that the Domestic Milk Intake in July 2024 by milk processors and co-ops fell by 33.9 million litres, or 3.3%, compared with the same month in 2023. The total Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to July is lower by 5% compared with the corresponding period in 2023. Compared with July 2023, protein content rose from 3.47% to 3.5%, while fat content fell from 4.14% to 4.09%.”
