Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 1,020.8 million litres in July 2023, a marginal decrease of 0.2% (-1.95 million litres) when compared with July 2022.
Fat content rose from 4.03% in July 2022 to 4.13% in July 2023. Protein content in July 2022 was 3.47% and remained unchanged in July 2023.
Butter production grew by 8.5% from 29,300 tonnes in July 2022 to 31,700 tonnes in July 2023.
Skim Milk Powder production fell from 22,100 tonnes in July 2022 to 20,200 tonnes in July 2023.
In the seven months from January to July 2023, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 5,616.4 million litres, a decline of 43.9 million litres (-0.8%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (04 September 2023) published Milk Statistics for July 2023.
Commenting on the release Donal Kelly Senior Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a marginal decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 0.2% in July 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Domestic Milk Intake fell by 0.8% (43.9 million litres) over the seven-month period from January to July 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. Fat content rose to 4.13% in July 2023 from 4.03% in July 2022, while Protein content was unchanged at 3.47% over the same period.”
