Domestic Milk Intake by milk processors and co-ops was estimated at 140.1 million litres in January 2024, a decrease of 40.4 million litres (-22.4%) when compared with January 2023 and down 43.2 million litres (-23.6%) when compared with same month in 2022.
Fat content for January 2024 was 4.50%, unchanged from January 2023. Protein content fell from 3.50% to 3.48% in the twelve months to January 2024.
Milk sold for human consumption was estimated at 38.0 million litres in January 2024, down 2.4 million litres (-6.0%) when compared with January 2023.
In 2023, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at almost 8.5 billion litres, a decline of 366.3 million litres (-4.2%) when compared with 2022, and down by 299.9 million litres (-3.4%) when compared with 2021.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (06 March 2024) published Milk Statistics for January 2024.
Commenting on the release Giselle Myles, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show the milk estimate for January 2024 fell by 22% when compared with January 2023 and was down by around 24% when compared with the peak January figure, which was in 2022."
