Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 178.8 million litres for January 2023, a 2.4% decrease when compared with January 2022.
Fat content rose from 4.41% in January 2022 to 4.47% in January 2023. Protein content also increased from 3.47% to 3.50% over the same period.
Skim Milk Powder production grew marginally from 5,200 tonnes in January 2022 to 5,900 tonnes in January 2023.
Butter production decreased from 6,700 tonnes in January 2022 to 5,600 tonnes in January 2023.
Table 3 details EU Milk Intake for 2021 and 2022 where Ireland ranks sixth with 9,087 thousand tonnes.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (06 March 2023) published Milk Statistics for January 2023.
Commenting on the release Dr Grzegorz Głaczyński, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “Ireland ranks sixth in the European Milk Intake by Creameries and Pasteurisers with 9,087 thousand tonnes for 2022. On a national scale, a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 2.4% was observed in January 2023, when compared with the same month in 2022.”
