Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 361.3 million litres for February 2023, a 1.7% decrease when compared with February 2022.
Fat content rose from 4.44% in February 2022 to 4.46% in February 2023. Protein content also increased from 3.42% to 3.50% over the same period.
Butter production decreased by 6% from 11,600 tonnes in February 2022 to 10,900 tonnes in February 2023.
Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to February 2023 was estimated at 541.7 million litres, a decline of 9 million litres (-1.6%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2022 and 2023.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (04 April 2023) published Milk Statistics for February 2023.
Commenting on the release Donal Kelly, Senior Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 1.7% in February 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Fat and Protein content rose to 4.46% from 4.44% and 3.50% from 3.42% respectively over the same period."
