Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 910 million litres in August 2023, a decrease of 9 million litres (-1%) when compared with August 2022.
Fat content rose from 4.21% in August 2022 to 4.27% in August 2023. Protein content also increased from 3.53% in August 2022 to 3.60% in August 2023.
Butter production was up 6.9% from 28,600 tonnes in August 2022 to 30,600 tonnes in August 2023.
Skim Milk Powder production was 20,400 tonnes in August 2023 in comparison with 16,900 tonnes in August 2022.
In the eight months from January to August 2023, Domestic Milk Intake was estimated at 6,521.8 million litres, a decline of 57.5 million litres (-0.9%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (03 October 2023) published Milk Statistics for August 2023.
Commenting on the release Dr Grzegorz Głaczyński, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 1.0% in August 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Domestic Milk Intake fell by 0.9% (57.5 million litres) over the eight-month period from January to August 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. Fat content rose to 4.27% in August 2023 from 4.21% in August 2022, while Protein content increased to 3.60% from 3.53% over the same period.”
