Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated at 1,019.5 million litres for April 2023, a 3.3% decrease (-35.2 million litres) when compared with April 2022 and down by 3.9% (-41.1 million litres) when compared with April 2021.
Fat content rose from 4.04% in April 2022 to 4.13% in April 2023. Protein content fell from 3.44% to 3.36% over the same period.
Butter production increased by 1,600 tonnes, from 29,600 tonnes in April 2022 to 31,200 tonnes in April 2023.
Domestic Milk Intake for the period January to April 2023 was estimated at 2,382.3 million litres, a decline of 31.7 million litres (-1.3%) when compared with the corresponding period for 2022.
Table 1 presents analysis on month versus month and year-to-date comparisons of the current year and previous year's domestic milk intake.
Figure 1 shows up-to-date trends of monthly domestic milk intake for 2022 and 2023.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (06 June 2023) published Milk Statistics for April 2023.
Commenting on the release Dr Grzegorz Głaczyński, Statistician in the Agriculture Section of the CSO, said: “The figures show a decrease in Domestic Milk Intake by creameries and pasteurisers of 3.3% in April 2023 when compared with the same month in 2022. Domestic Milk Intake declined by 1.3% (31.7 million litres) during the period January to April 2023, compared with the same period in 2022.”
