An analysis of the data for January 2024 compared with January 2023 shows that Cattle slaughterings increased by 7.9%.
During the same period, the number of Sheep slaughtered rose by 2.4%.
Pig slaughterings grew by 0.6% in January 2024 in comparison to January 2023.

The number of Cattle slaughtered increased by 12,115 heads (+7.9%) to nearly 166,000 heads.
Sheep slaughterings were approximately 259,000 heads, up 6,124 heads (+2.4%).
The number of Pigs slaughtered rose by 1,719 heads (+0.6%) to just over 298,000 heads.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (27 February 2024) released Livestock Slaughterings January 2024.
Commenting on the release, Mairead Griffin, Statistician in the Agriculture Accounts & Production Section, said: "In January 2024, when compared with January 2023, Cattle slaughterings increased by 7.9% to almost 166,000 heads. During the same period, the number of Sheep slaughtered rose by 2.4% to nearly 259,000 heads, while Pig slaughterings grew by 0.6% to 298,000 heads."
