Trade balance of €55.2bn in Quarter 1 2023

Ireland’s trade balance at €55.2bn, all goods and services exports less all goods and services imports, increased by €1.9bn in the first quarter of 2023 over the same period in 2022, mainly due to increased contract manufacturing exports and computer service exports which were offset by increased royalty imports.

Service exports, at €83.2bn, increased by €4.7bn compared to the first quarter of 2022, mainly due to higher computer services exports (which increased by €4.1bn) and higher transport and travel services exports (which increased by €0.8bn and €0.5bn).

Service imports, at €84bn, were up €12.5bn compared to the first quarter of 2022, mainly due to increased royalty and business service imports (which grew by €8bn and €3.1bn).
