Trade balance of €54.6bn in Quarter 1 2023

Ireland’s trade balance at €54.6bn, all goods and services exports less all goods and services imports, increased by €1.4bn in the first quarter of 2023 over the same period in 2022, mainly due to increased contract manufacturing exports which were partially offset by increased royalty imports.

Service exports, at €83.3bn, increased by €5.3bn compared to the first quarter of 2022, mainly due to higher Computer services exports (which increased by €3.8bn) and higher Transport and Travel services exports (which both increased by €0.8bn).

Service imports, at €84.8bn, were up €12.3bn compared to the first quarter of 2022, mainly due to increased Royalty imports of €8.2bn and increased Travel and Business service imports (which grew by €1.4bn and €1.5bn).
