Revenue

Total government revenue this quarter was €2.3 billion higher than Q4 2022. The main component of the change was taxes which were up by €1.4 billion. Investment income and social contributions also saw increases of €0.5 billion and €0.3 billion.

Expenditure

At €31.7 billion, total expenditure in Q4 2023 was €1.9 billion more than last year (€29.8 billion).

Intermediate consumption increased by €0.7 billion while social benefits were €0.4 billion higher and there was an additional €0.3 billion on pay (compensation of employees). Gross fixed capital formation also increased by €0.5 billion.
