The unadjusted value of goods imports increased by €641 million (+5.4%) to €12.5 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€11.8 billion).
In Quarter 1 (Q1) of 2025, exports of goods grew by €34.3 billion (+63.6%) to €88.4 billion when compared with Q1 2024 (€54 billion).
Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products rose by €16.7 billion (+243.3%) to €23.6 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€6.9 billion). This represented 63.3% of total exports in March 2025.
In Q1 2025, exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by 154% (€33.9 billion) to €55.9 billion compared with Q1 2024 (€22.0 billion).
Exports to the US increased by €20.3 billion (+394.9%) to €25.4 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€5.1 billion).
Of total goods exported to the US, 94% (€23.9 billion) were Chemicals & Related Products which include Medical & Pharmaceutical Products.
Seasonally adjusted goods exports rose by €9.1 billion (+34.6%) to €35.2 billion in March compared with February 2025 (€26.1 billion). This led to an increase of €10.7 billion (+83.9%) in the seasonally adjusted trade in goods surplus to €23.4 billion.
The most recent month’s data on External Trade in Goods figures are provisional and subject to revision. Revisions to the monthly series back data shall take place, if and as required, on foot of late survey returns, VAT returns and corrections made by traders. The data for the same month a year ago may be considered final – revisions would be applied only in exceptional circumstances. Revisions are applied also to the volume indices and to the seasonally adjusted data.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports increased by €9.1 billion (+34.6%) to €35.2 billion in March compared with February 2025 (€26.1 billion), according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports decreased by €1.6 billion (-11.9%), leading to an increase of €10.7 billion (+83.9%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €23.4 billion in March compared with February 2025 (€12.7 billion) (See Table 2).
Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.
The (unadjusted) value of goods exports increased by €18.1 billion (+94.3%) to €37.3 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€19.2 billion).

In March 2025, Ireland’s top exporting partners were USA, Netherlands and Great Britain, with Ireland exporting 68.2 % (€25.4 billion), 4.4% (€1.64 billion) and 3.4% (€1.25 billion) of total export goods respectively to these countries.
Ireland imported the highest value of goods from Germany, USA and Great Britain with these countries representing 16.3 % (€2.0 billion), 13.5% (€1.69 billion) and 12.6% (€1.57 billon) of the total import goods trade in March 2025.
Exports of goods to Great Britain fell by €564.9 million (-31.1%) to €1.3 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€1.8 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of good exports to Great Britian were Food & Live Animals at €379.24 million, and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €280.56 million.
Imports of goods from Great Britain increased by €65.7 million (+4.4%) to €1.6 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€1.5 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of imports from Great Britian were Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials at €426.36 million, and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €303.3 million.
Exports of goods to the US increased by €20.3 billion (+394.9%) to €25.4 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024, accounting for 68.2% of total goods exports in March 2025. They accounted for 26.8% of total goods exports in March 2024 (€5.1 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of export goods were Chemicals & Related Products at €23.9 billion and Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles at €793.15 million, representing 94% and 3.1% of total good exports to the US in March 2025.
Exports to the US of Chemicals & Related Products grew by €20.1 billion (536%) to €23.9 billion in March 2025 compared to March 2024 (€3.8 billion).
Imports of goods from the US decreased by €371.1 million (-18%) to €1.7 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€2.1 billion).
The products which accounted for the largest share of good imports were Machinery & Transport Equipment at €628.52 million and Chemicals & Related Products at €623.35 million, representing 37.3% and 37% of total good imports from the US in March 2025.

Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €16.7 billion (+243.3%) to €23.6 billion in March 2025 compared with the same period of 2024 (€6.9 billion). This represented 63.3% of total good exports in March 2025.
In Q1 2025, exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products more than doubled, increasing by 154% (€33.9 billion) to €55.9 billion compared to Q1 2024 (€22.0 billion).
Exports of Organic Chemicals rose by €1.6 billion (+48.7%) to €4.9 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€3.3 billion).
Exports of Office machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines (including computers) increased by €224.3 million (+73.6%) to €528.9 million in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€304.6 million) (See Table 3).
Imports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €1.7 billion (+175.4%) to €2.6 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€955.5 million). This represented 21.1% of total good imports in March 2025.
Imports of Organic Chemicals fell by €573.8 million (-54.6%) to €476.7 million in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€1.1 billion).
Imports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines (including computers) rose by €267.5 million (+49.9%) to €803.1 million in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€535.6 million) (See Table 3).

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (15 May 2025) published Goods Exports and Imports March 2025.
Commenting on the release Jane Burmanje, Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division said: “In the first quarter of 2025, the value of goods exported increased by €34.3 billion (+63.6%) to €88.4 billion, when compared with Q1 2024 (€54 billion).
In March 2025, exports of goods almost doubled compared with March 2024, increasing by €18.1 billion (+94.3%) to €37.3 billion leading to an unadjusted trade in goods surplus of €24.8 billion.
Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products more than tripled to €23.6 billion (+243%) in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€6.9 billion) and represented almost two thirds (63.3%) of total export goods for the month.
The unadjusted value of goods imports rose by €641 million (+5.4%) to €12.5 billion in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (€11.8 billion).
More than two thirds (68.2 %) of export goods went to the USA (€25.4 billion). This means, for every €1 worth of goods Ireland exported in March 2025, almost 70c went to the US.
