Exports of goods increased by 17% in July 2024 compared with July 2023, with a value of over €18.3 billion.
Goods imports rose by €400 million in July 2024 compared with the same month in 2023.
Ireland’s exports of goods have increased by €9.5 billion to over €126 billion in the first seven months of 2024.
Imports have fallen by €5 billion in the period January to July 2024.
Seasonally adjusted exports were valued at €17.8 billion in July 2024, up €760 million.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports grew by €765 million (+4%) to €17,830 million in July 2024 compared with June 2024, according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports increased by €300 million (+3%) to €11,716 million leading to an increase of €464 million (+8%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €6,114 million in July 2024 compared with June 2024 (See Table 2). Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.

The (unadjusted) value of goods exports increased by €2,696 million (+17%) to €18,324 million in July 2024 compared with July 2023. The value of goods exports for the first seven months of 2024 grew by €9,510 million (+8%) to €126,232 million, when compared with the same period of 2023.
The (unadjusted) value of goods imports increased by €432 million (+4%) to €11,327 million in July 2024 compared with July 2023. The value of goods imports for the period January to July 2024 fell by €5,003 million (-6%) to €76,029 million, when compared with the same period of 2023.
Exports to Great Britain were €1,286 million, which was 7% of total exports in July 2024, a decrease of €512 million (-28%) when compared with July 2023. The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were Food & Live Animals with €356 million and Machinery & Transport Equipment at €343 million.
Imports from Great Britain in July 2024 were €1,439 million, which was 13% of the total value of imports. Imports of Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials were valued at €369 million, and imports of Machinery & Transport Equipment accounted for €246 million. (See Table 5).
The EU accounted for €7,143 million (39%) of total goods exports in July 2024, of which €2,186 million went to Germany, €1,688 million went to the Netherlands and €815 million went to Belgium.
The USA was the main non-EU destination accounting for €5,755 million (31%) of total exports in July 2024 (See Table 4).

Exports of Organic Chemicals increased by €608 million (+37%) to €2,272 million in July 2024 compared with July 2023.
Exports of Electrical Machinery, Apparatus & Appliances grew by €344 million (+56%) to €957 million.
Exports of Professional, Scientific & Controlling Apparatus increased by €712 million (+90%) to €1,501 million. (See Table 3).
Imports of Organic Chemicals were down by €1,679 million (-83%) to €350 million in July 2024 compared with July 2023.
Imports of Food & Live Animals increased by €131 million (+17%) to €902 million.
Imports of Other Transport Equipment, including Aircraft increased by €467 million (+41%) to €1,613 million.
Imports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines increased by €322 million (+80%) to €723 million. (See Table 3).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (16 September 2024) released Goods Exports and Imports July 2024.
Commenting on the release, Ciarán Counihan, Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division, said: “Ireland’s exports of goods increased by €9.5 billion in the first seven months of this year, while imports decreased by €5 billion.
In July 2024, Ireland’s unadjusted exports of goods rose by €2.7 billion to €18.3 billion compared with July 2023. When seasonally adjusted, exports of goods grew by €760 million when compared with June 2024.
The unadjusted imports for July 2024 were valued at €11.3 billion, up more than €400 million on July 2023. Seasonally adjusted imports were €11.7 billion in July 2024.
Exports to the United States have grown by almost €8 billion in the year to date, and account for more than 30% of the total value of exports.”
