Unadjusted goods exports were €16 billion in July 2023, an increase of €1 billion when compared with July last year.
Unadjusted goods imports were €11 billion, which was over €300 million more than imports in July 2022.
Seasonally adjusted goods exports were €16.7 billion in July 2023, a decrease of €500 million compared with June 2023.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports were €12.2 billion in July 2023.
Exports to Great Britain were €1.9 billion in July 2023, while imports from Great Britain were €1.7 billion.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports fell by €503 million (-3%) to €16,739 million in July 2023 compared with June 2023, according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports grew by €449 million (+4%) to €12,157 million leading to a decrease of €952 million (-17%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €4,581 million in July 2023 compared with June 2023 (See Table 2). Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.

The (unadjusted) value of goods exports grew by €1,048 million (+7%) to €15,955 million in July 2023 compared with July 2022. The value of goods exports for the period January to July 2023 was down by €3,042 million (-3%) to €116,899 million, when compared with the same period of 2022.
The (unadjusted) value of goods imports increased by €336 million (+3%) to €11,039 million in July 2023 compared with July 2022. The value of goods imports for the first seven months of 2023 increased by €2,095 million (+3%) to €80,615 million, when compared with the same period of 2022.
Exports to Great Britain were €1,873 million, which was 12% of total exports in July 2023. The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were Chemicals & Related Products at €999 million and Food & Live Animals with €316 million. Exports to Great Britain for January to July 2023 increased by €1,511 million (+15%) to €11,400 million when compared with the first seven months of 2022.
Imports from Great Britain in July 2023 were €1,680 million, which was 15% of the total value of imports. Imports of Chemicals & Related Products accounted for €457 million, and imports of Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials were valued at €346 million. Imports from Great Britain in the first seven months of 2023 decreased by €154 million (-1%) to €13,146 million (See Table 5).
The EU accounted for €6,737 million (42%) of total goods exports in July 2023, of which €1,627 million went to Belgium, €1,594 million went to Germany and €1,379 million went to the Netherlands.
The USA was the main non-EU destination accounting for €4,051 million (25%) of total exports in July 2023 (See Table 4).

Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products increased by €1,292 million (+22%) to €7,066 million in July 2023 compared with July 2022. This represented 44% of total exports.
Exports of Organic Chemicals increased by €277 million (+20%) to €1,648 million in July 2023 compared with July 2022
Exports of Electrical Machinery, Apparatus & Appliances fell by €698 million (-53%) to €623 million.
Exports of Professional, Scientific & Controlling Apparatus grew by €262 million (+39%) to €940 million (See Table 3).
Imports of Organic Chemicals increased by €857 million (+49%) to €2,615 million in July 2023 compared with July 2022.
Imports of Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials decreased by €296 million (-32%) to €616 million.
Imports of Office Machines & Automatic Data Processing Machines fell by €89 million (-18%) to €400 million. (See Table 3).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (15 September 2023) released Goods Exports and Imports July 2023.
Commenting on the release, Ciarán Counihan, Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division said: “In July 2023, Ireland’s unadjusted exports of goods increased by €1 billion to €16 billion when compared with July 2022. When seasonally adjusted, exports of goods fell by €500 million compared with June 2023.
The unadjusted imports for July 2023 were valued at €11 billion, a rise of more than €300 million on July 2022. Seasonally adjusted imports were €12.2 billion in July 2023.
Comparing the first seven months of 2023 with the same period in 2022, exports of goods were down 3%, while the value of imports increased by 3%. Exports for the first seven months of 2023 were €117 billion.
Imports from Great Britain fell by 10% to €1.7 billion in July 2023 when compared with July 2022, and the largest decrease was in the imports of Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Materials which fell by 25%.
Exports to Great Britain grew by 63% to €1.9 billion from July 2022 to July 2023.”
