Unadjusted goods exports were €16.5 billion in February 2023, an increase of €660 million compared with February last year.
Unadjusted goods imports were €10 billion, which was more than €900 million higher than imports in February 2022.
Seasonally adjusted goods exports were €17.3 billion in February 2023, an increase of €1.6 billion compared with January 2023.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports were €11.9 billion in February 2023.
Imports from Great Britain were €1.9 billion in February 2023, while exports to Great Britain were €1.3 billion.

Seasonally adjusted goods exports rose by €1,595 million (+10%) to €17,257 million in February 2023 compared with January 2023, according to preliminary figures.
Seasonally adjusted goods imports decreased by €162 million (-1%) to €11,915 million leading to an increase of €1,757 million (+49%) in the seasonally adjusted trade surplus to €5,342 million in February 2023 compared with January 2023 (See Table 2). Seasonal adjustment compares month-to-month data by removing fluctuations that may occur due to seasonal patterns in trade.

The (unadjusted) value of goods exports grew by €660 million (+4%) to €16,529 million in February 2023 compared with February 2022. The value of goods exports for the period January to February 2023 fell by €51 million (-0.2%) to €31,885 million, when compared with the same period of 2022.
The (unadjusted) value of goods imports rose by €924 million (+10%) to €10,022 million in February 2023 compared with February 2022. The value of goods imports for the first two months of 2023 increased by €2,629 million (+14%) to €21,092 million, when compared with the same period of 2022.
Exports to Great Britain were €1,267 million, which was 8% of total exports in February 2023. The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were Chemicals & Related Products at €460 million and Food & Live Animals with €295 million.
Imports from Great Britain in February 2023 were €1,899 million, which was 19% of the total value of imports. Imports of Chemicals & Related Products accounted for €611 million, and imports of Mineral Fuels Lubricants & Related Products were valued at €508 million (See Table 5).
The EU accounted for €7,352 million (44%) of total goods exports in February 2023, of which €2,149 million went to Germany, €1,598 million went to Belgium and €1,212 million went to the Netherlands.
The USA was the main non-EU destination accounting for €4,054 million (25%) of total exports in February 2023 (See Table 4).

Exports of Medical & Pharmaceutical Products declined by €190 million (-3%) to €5,699 million in February 2023 compared with February 2022. This represented 34% of total exports.
Exports of Organic Chemicals grew by €192 million (+6%) to €3,545 million.
Exports of Electrical Machinery, Apparatus & Appliances fell by €387 million (-34%) to €758 million.
Exports of Food & Live Animals rose by €149 million (+16%) to €1,071 million in February 2023 compared with February 2022 (See Table 3).
Imports of Organic Chemicals were up by €409 million (+49%) to €1,238 million in February 2023 compared with February 2022.
Imports of Machinery Specialised for Particular Industries expanded by €128 million (+73%) to €304 million.
Imports of Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Products increased by €76 million (+10%) to €815 million.
Imports of Electrical Machinery, Apparatus & Appliances were down by €93 million (-14%) to €592 million.
The value of goods imports for February 2023 excluding SITC 79 (Other Transport Equipment, Including Aircraft) grew by €919 million (+12%) to €8,876 million, compared with the corresponding February 2022 figure of €7,956 million (See Table 3).

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (18 April 2023) released Goods Exports and Imports February 2023.
Commenting on the release, Orla McCarthy, Senior Statistician in the International Trade in Goods Division said: “In February 2023, Ireland’s unadjusted exports of goods increased by €660 million to €16.5 billion compared with February 2022. When seasonally adjusted, exports of goods rose by €1.6 billion compared with January 2023.
The unadjusted imports for February 2023 were valued at €10 billion, up €900 million on February 2022. Seasonally adjusted imports were €11.9 billion in February 2023.
Comparing the first two months of 2023 with the same period in 2022, exports of goods were virtually unchanged, and the value of imports increased by 14%. Exports for January and February 2023 were almost €32 billion.
Imports from Great Britain grew by 27% to €1.9 billion in February 2023 compared with February 2022, and the largest increases were in the imports of Chemicals & Related products and Mineral Fuels, Lubricants & Related Products.
Exports to Great Britain rose by 24% to more than €1.2 billion in February 2023 from February 2022.”
