Please note: Employments active for less than 50 weeks in the reference year are excluded from the calculations for annual earnings. This is done to improve comparability of the data over time. Typically, the proportion of employments retained for annual earnings analysis is relatively consistent at both the total economy and economic sector level. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labour market, the proportion of employments retained for annual earnings analysis differs from previous years, specifically for those sectors most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Median annual earnings rose by 3.3% from €41,823 in 2022 to €43,221 in 2023. The median weekly earnings among males (€47,187) were 20.9% higher than among females (€39,039).
Median annual earnings were highest in the Information & Communication (€76,002), Financial, Insurance & Real Estate (€56,582) and Public Administration & Defence (€54,760) economic sectors. The lowest median annual earnings were recorded among employments in the Accommodation & Food (€24,464) and Arts, Entertainment, Recreation & Other Services (€26,811) sectors in 2023.
Median annual earnings increased across all economic sectors since 2022, ranging from 0.4% in Transportation & Storage from €41,451 in 2022 to €41,609 in 2023, to a 6.3% increase in the Information & Communication sector from €71,494 in 2022 to €76,002 in 2023.
