The age group with the highest median weekly earnings in 2023 was the 40-49 years age group at €855.39, an increase of 4.3% from €819.75 in 2022, followed by the 30-39 years age group at €807.69 in 2023. The lowest median weekly earnings were recorded for the 15-24 years age group at €353.44 in 2023.
Both males (€957.84) and females (€750.86) in the 40-49 years age group had the highest median weekly earnings among their respective sexes, with males in this age cohort earning 27.6% more than their female counterparts on a weekly basis. Those in the 50-59 years age bracket recorded the next highest median weekly earnings among males at €927.32, while the next highest median weekly earnings among females was recorded among the 30-39 years age cohort at €744.55. A similar trend was observed in 2022.
The 40-49 years age cohort also recorded the highest overall mean weekly earnings at €1,094.55 in 2023, a 4.2% increase on the equivalent figure in 2022 of €1,050.56, followed by those aged 50-59 at €1,066.31. The 15-24 years age group recorded the lowest mean weekly earnings in 2023 at €392.21.
Among males, those in the 50-59 years age category recorded the highest mean weekly earnings at €1,265.17 in 2023, marginally higher than those in the 40-49 years age group at €1,252.40. Those in the 40-49 years age group recorded the highest mean weekly earnings among females at €939.59 which was 7.4% higher than the next highest age group, 30-39 years, at €874.81 (See Tables 4.1 and 4.2).
