In 2022, there were 1,109,557 people who experienced a long-lasting condition or difficulty to any extent, accounting for 22% of the population.

Of these, 407,342 (8% of the population) experienced a long-lasting condition or difficulty to a great extent or a lot.

A further 702,215 (14% of the population) experienced a long-lasting condition or difficulty to some extent or a little.

In 2022, 83% of the population reported their health as very good or good, down 4% from 2016.

At 76%, Dublin City was the county with the lowest proportion of people reporting very good or good health (449,248 people).

At 88%, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown was the county with the highest proportion of people reporting very good or good health (206,240 people).

In 2022, there were 86,972 unpaid carers providing 43 or more hours of unpaid help per week (29% of all unpaid carers).

In 2016, there were 41,185 unpaid carers providing 43 or more hours of unpaid help per week (21% of all unpaid carers).
