Of the 37 countries the most expensive country for Food was Switzerland, with prices on average 64% above the EU28 average. Of the European Union countries Denmark was the most expensive while Austria was the most expensive of the Eurozone countries.
Of the 37 countries Ireland was the joint, along with Sweden, 8th most expensive for food and 4th most expensive of the Eurozone countries.
Table 5.1 summary results while figure 5.1 shows the detailed results for the 37 countries.
When we look at the results by the main food sub-categories, in the next few chapters, we find that, of the 37 countries, Ireland was the 10th most expensive country for Bread and Cereals, 14th most expensive for Meat, 12th most expensive for Fish, 7th most expensive for Milk, Cheese and Eggs, 22nd most expensive for Oils and Fats and joint 6th most expensive for Fruits, Vegetables and Potatoes.
If we just look at the Eurozone countries we see that Ireland was the 5th most expensive country for Bread and Cereals, 9th most expensive for Meat, 7th most expensive for Fish, 4th most expensive for Milk, Cheese and Eggs, 13th most expensive for Oils and Fats and the joint 3rd most expensive country for Fruits, Vegetables and Potatoes.
