2.8 Irish speakers in 1911 and 2011

The text of the question on Irish in the Census of Population for 1911 and 2011 was:

1911:

'Write the word "Irish" in this column opposite the name of each person who speaks Irish only and the words "Irish & English" opposite the names of those who can speak both languages. In other cases no entry should be made in this column.

2011: 

'Can you speak Irish? (Yes/No)

If 'Yes', do you speak Irish?

Daily, within the education system

Daily, outside the education system

Weekly

Less often

Never

 

4.23 Number of private cars and motorcycles under current licence in 1915 and 2014  

and 4.24 Number of cars under current licence by county in 1915 and 2014

Registered data is used for 1915 and licensed data for 2014. Licensing differs from registration in that a vehicle is licensed when a valid motor tax disc is issued for the first time. Registration occurs when a vehicle gets a licence plate (registration number) for the first time.
