Travel to Work Module

Explanatory notes

The Travel Module should only be asked of those respondents who are working. Lately, there has been a lot of debate about the number of cars on the road, the inadequacy of public transport, the difficulty finding parking etc. This module will contribute some very useful statistics to this debate.

How many people travel to work by car? How many of these people travel alone? This information is of huge interest to the Dept. of the Environment and Local Government, the E.S.R.I., and other users like The Automobile Association (A.A.). Distance from work has wider implications for our economy, as it impinges on road use, housing policy, fuel consumption etc. Parking charges will also be of particular interest to the Dept. of Finance.
Numbers availing of public transport will be of interest to C.I.E., Iarnród Eireann, Dublin Bus etc. as will the explanations for not using their services. This will also be of interest to the Dept. of Environment and Local Government, the Dept. of Finance, the A.A., the E.S.R.I. etc.
The information collected in this module, will be of enormous benefit to planners, policy makers and researchers. It will also be of general interest.

Module

This module should only be asked of those respondents are working. Therefore the initial filter will be based on ILO employment classification.
