Wood Inputs Survey

Survey purpose and legal basis

The main purposes of the survey are to collect data on roundwood used in the manufacturing process and on non-roundwood forest products used for energy.

The 2023 Wood Inputs Survey is being conducted under the Statistics (Wood Inputs Survey) Order 2020 (S.I. No. 650 of 2020), which was made under the Statistics Act, 1993. Under Sections 26 and 27 of the Statistics Act, 1993, you are obliged by law to complete and return the form.

Who uses the results?

The data collected in this survey will be made available to Eurostat and will be published nationally at an aggregated level only. Aggregated data will also be provided to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Is your personal data confidential and how long will the data be retained?

All information supplied to the CSO is treated as strictly confidential in accordance with Section 33 of the Statistics Act, 1993, and will be used for statistical purposes only.

We will retain the survey data indefinitely as one of the purposes of the data collection is to obtain longitudinal information on roundwood and non-roundwood products used by sawmills and similar enterprises in NACE Rev. 2 Divisions 16 and 17.
