Each year the Central Statistics Office (CSO) hosts an Awards Ceremony for students from around the country who take part in our competitions throughout the year.

It is an opportunity for us to celebrate the winners of the Award for the Best Use of CSO Open Data, the CSO Special Award for Use of Open Data at the Young Economist of the Year, and the John Hooper Statistical Poster Competition.

The winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony held in Croke Park, Dublin on 15 October 2024. The Director General of the CSO, Jennifer Banim, presented the awards.

The winners of the 2024 competitions are as follows:

  • Nick Kuzmin and Emilie Dowdall, Dundalk Grammar School, Dundalk, Co. Louth  won the John Hooper Medal for Statistics. 
  • Sarah Hannon, Fionnán Murray and Bria Daly, Tullamore College, Co. Offaly won the CSO Special Award for Use of Open Data at the Young Economist of the Year (YEOTY).
  • Addison Carey, Celbridge Community School, Co. Kildare, won the CSO Award for the Best Use of Open Data at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2024.
