The net selling value of products manufactured and sold by Irish industrial enterprises in 2012 was down 1.8% on 2011 levels to €85.9 billion. The principle reasons for this fall were the values of Chemical and Pharmaceutical products declined 11.8% and Paper and paper related products decreased 19.8%. These declines were partially offset by the values of Computer, electronic, optical and Electrical equipment products which increased by 26.6% and products from the Food sector which increased by 2.5%.
In 2012, the Food sector accounted for €17.7 billion or 20.6% of all Irish product sales while the Computer, electronic, optical and Electrical equipment product sales amounted to €10.6 billion or 12.2% of all Irish product sales for the same period.
