The number of Fraud, deception and related offences recorded by An Garda Síochána rose to 7,944 in 2019, an increase of 26.2% compared to 2018. The number of incidents recorded in the category Controlled drug offences rose by 17.3% to 21,475 offences.

The number of crime incidents in the category Attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences increased by 1,587 incidents, or 7.9%, in 2019, while the number of crimes recorded in the category Sexual offences rose by 3.9%. The numbers of crimes of Robbery, extortion and hijacking offences, and Burglary and related offences both fell in 2019.

The number of Homicide and related offences recorded for 2019 is lower than for 2018 by 30, however some care should be taken when interpreting this fall, as the more recent figure may rise as investigations into fatal road traffic collisions conclude. The number of incidents of Murder and Manslaughter fell from 47 in 2018 to 39 in 2019. A more detailed analysis of the data in Table 1.1 is provided in Chapter 3.
