Membership and Organisation

The CSO will be responsible for organising meetings but meetings will be co-chaired by Tomás O’Ruairc (Assistant Secretary General, DoE) and Paul Morrin (Assistant Director General, CSO). The agenda will be open and all members of the group are invited to suggest items for discussion or other research. Membership of the Group may be extended (permanently or temporarily) if necessary, depending on the subject being discussed, to include other representatives or organisations.

Terms of Reference

Purpose

The CSO Education Statistics Liaison Group will play an important role in assessing the needs of key users of statistics on education and developing the statistical potential of data sources in this field. It will also facilitate the effective exchange of information on all areas of education statistics between the main producers and users of such statistics.

Role

The role of the Group shall be to:
1. Function as a discussion forum to advise on the education statistics required to support national and regional policy needs;
2. Discuss the statistical potential of data sources and opportunities for data sharing;
3. Address any data matters arising related to existing data transfers between the Education bodies and the CSO, as established under memorandums of understanding or data sharing agreements;
4. Provide and share information on progress regarding surveys/data projects and other relevant issues relating to statistics on education;
5. Confidentiality of data being respected at all times. 

Frequency of Meetings

The Liaison Group to meet at least twice a year to review progress on education statistics by all organisations in the group and to identify possible new areas of cooperation.
