Resumption of the Publication of Recorded Crime Statistics as Statistics “Under Reservation”

The Central Statistics Office will resume publication of the quarterly Recorded Crime statistics on Wednesday 28th March at 11am.

Users are advised all Recorded Crime statistics will be published under a new category “Under Reservation”.   This category has been applied to reflect the fact that there are data quality issues in the underlying sources used to compile these statistics. This approach of differentiating statistics based on quality concerns associated with the underlying data is consistent with other jurisdictions such as England and Wales.

In the case of Recorded Crime statistics, the new classification will actively alert users to the underlying quality deficiencies and inform them that further revisions can be expected as these deficiencies are resolved. An FAQ document describing the rationale and implications of this categorisation will accompany the publication.

Users are advised that the Recorded Crime data contained in Wednesday’s release will include revisions back to 2003.
