Go to release: Exporting Enterprises in Ireland 2017
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (13 November 2019) published Exporting Enterprises in Ireland 2017. This new publication presents a detailed insight into enterprises in Ireland engaged with markets abroad. It includes a new indicator, export intensity, which is the percentage of an enterprise's exports to its overall turnover.
Commeting on the report, Colin Hanley, Statistician said: "In 2017, there were 10,516 enterprises exporting goods and/or services to markets abroad. Their total turnover for 2017 was €435.7 billion, 77.4% of which came from exports. There were 358,525 persons engaged in exporting enterprises in 2017.
Nearly one out of every four exporting enterprises (2,477) had an export intensity of 75% or greater in 2017, making them very reliant on exports. There were 124,741 persons engaged in enterprises very reliant on exports. Over half (70,296) of these were engaged in the Industrial sector.
There were 8,685 enterprises exporting to the United Kingdom in 2017. The total value of their exports to the UK was €46.2 billion which was 11.3% of turnover for those enterprises. Of the 8,685 enterprises, 4,096 exported exclusively to the UK in 2017. There were 39,550 persons engaged in enterprises exporting solely to the UK while 44.8% of their turnover was attributed to UK exports."
