The 1901 and 1911 census returns.

The census returns of 1901 and 1911 for all 32 counties in Ireland are available to view online at the website of the National Archives. The website is freely accessible, with no charge for viewing any of the material.

These records, which comprise the household returns and ancillary records for the censuses of 1901 and 1911, are an extremely valuable part of the Irish national heritage, and a resource for genealogists, local historians and other scholars.

The original returns are all housed in the National Archives of Ireland. The returns are arranged by townland for rural areas and by street in cities, and it is necessary to know the townland or street where a person lived and its corresponding District Electoral Division (DED) in order to find the record of a particular person of interest.
